The show, voiced by Gijs Scholten van Aschat in Dutch, presents Hoorn as a former metropolis and places local history in a broader, global context.
Walk the city route
Looking for a special day out in Hoorn? Then “Discover the story of Hoorn” is the starting point for your discovery of the city. This experience, housed in the monumental Statenpoort (Nieuwstraat 23), combines a spectacular multimedia show with in-depth podwalks.
First experience the 15-minute multimedia show, which brings the historic highlights of Hoorn to life on the inner walls of the Statenpoort. In a nutshell you discover the history, from the Battle of the Zuiderzee and voyages of discovery to the monopoly on nutmeg and black servants. The show, voiced by Gijs Scholten van Aschat in Dutch, presents Hoorn as a former metropolis and places local history in a broader, global context.
After the show you can walk one of the deepening podwalks on your own smartphone. Choose from a city route (1 hour) or a port route (1.5 hours) along the beautiful Hoorn monuments. The stories of people who once lived, worked and lived are told by a personal audio guide. The show and podwalks are also available in English and German. Do you prefer to walk along the Hoorn monuments with a personal guide? Then book the museum walk “The story of Hoorn” from Local Guide Hoorn. Both parts can be experienced separately and can therefore also be booked separately.
The location in the Statenpoort is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Statenpoort is largely wheelchair accessible.
